Slasher 101 (my review for you guys to edit/review)

Slashers 101 is for horror movie buffs and comic lovers alike. Even if you are only into one of the two this 24 page graphic novel will most likely appeal to the sensibilities of your taste. Stacie Ponder, a filmmaker, is also the writer and illustrator. Yes, a lady comic writer AND artist. But this comic is not your typical superhero-saves-something comic. It’s actually informative, like a text book with pictures of  cute little murderers and diagrams of strangely humorous death scenes.
Stacie “Final Girl” Ponder takes you through the Slasher film genre step by step in this book from the type of hair usually seen on the killers to breaking down stock characters. She mentions all the popular horror films but also discusses in detail scenes from one’s you may have never heard of.  You know how people can geek out about certain topics and your eyes glaze over because they know more than any human should about that topic? Well, Stacie discovered that if you take that geek glaze and throw it into a comic it becomes really interesting. She’s also funny.
Artistically, the style is simple. It’s what I would call a stick figure comic. It’s black and white with the main character being a female who is simply drawn but has about a hundred different expressions throughout. Even though I use the word ‘simple’, Stacie manages to put in enough detail so that each killer, is easily recognizable whether it’s Jason’s hockey mask or Freddy’s glove. The words and the pictures work together very well.
Normally in a review I’d try to discuss something that I didn’t like just to be objective. But, the thing about this comic is that it’s just really good. That might not mean much coming from me because you don’t know me. But if you enjoy comics, scary movies, documentaries, and general unusual geekieness, like me, then this really might appeal to you.  She’s done her homework, knows her stuff, and on top of it all she’s got a good since of humor.
This comic had me giggling in places, I was thoroughly entertained, and I actually came away having learned a thing or two. You can find Stacie on Twitter at @finalgrrl so go follow her there. Then check out her site here, to read more about Final Girl and purchase a copy for $5.  She will also do a personalized sketch edition for $10 that includes a picture of your choosing at the back of the comic.

(This is the rough draft. Feel free to add edit notes or comments)

Broken Hearted Wishing

I wished upon a star last night
Disney, I really hope you're right
My hearts full of love, desire, and longing
Is that enough? or is Fate back there  laughing, yawning

Tell me what happens after the shoe fits
The tale ends there and it dosn't make sense
If the place where the story ends should be the beginning
How can love last
It's a false start
It's the ending

One girl had thorns
One had a bad apple
An evil step mother broke one
Another was trapped in a tall tower

We all have our obstacles
I've got, like, nine
But if love conqures all
Will this wish really be mine?

Little girls believe in stories
I choose to see facts
These obstacles are real
and they sure do stack

So I'll glance up once again to the star
I want to believe, I do
You tell me love and wishes mix
to make beautiful endings come true

It seemed so simple years ago
But now I find that hard to digest
Yet, logic says dreams are ment for sleeping
So, maybe I simply just need some rest.

Angie's Bucket List

Bucket List
(in no particular order)
1. Hot Air Balloon ride
2. African Safari (the not shooting animals kind)
3. One afternoon, have a few hundred sandwiches and hygiene kits to pass out on the street for homeless/needy and pass them out personally with a group of people just showing kindness and putting smiles on faces
4. Play a zombie in a tv show or movie
5. Write and illustrate a children's book
6. Pet a whale in the wild
7. Have enough money to change a homeless or needy person's life that really desires change
8. Watch an embalming/autopsy
9. Get a tattoo
10. Ride a camel
11. Hold a big snake (always been scared to do that)
13. Have coffee on the sidewalk on Champs Elysees
14. Learn a song by memory on the piano
15. Take a group of needy children to Walt Disney World for a weekend
18. Voice over for a cartoon or animated film

This is an on going thing. I will keep adding to it and HOPEFULLY marking things off as time goes by. I know this isn't what we meant by 'writing' but, maybe I can add to this by eventually explaining why these things are on my list and what it felt like to accomplish each. Feel free to add your own here too.  I'm always fascinated by what others see as life long dreams. And who knows, we maybe be able to help each other with these dreams. I have a list in my room somewhere. These are the things i've thought of off the top of my head from that list. I'll add when I have a moment.
Oh, and if you do add a bucket list of your own and i see something that is super cool, don't be mad if i add it to mine.
